Taylor Swift Is Now Two Chart Records Behind The Beatles — And She Shows No Sign of Slowing Down

With ‘The Fate of Ophelia’ now having spent ten weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, Taylor Swift has set a personal record for her longest-running chart-topper in her entire career. The milestone simultaneously pushed her total number of Hot 100 number-one singles to 14, tying Rihanna for third place on the all-time list. The only artists above her now are Mariah Carey with 19 and The Beatles with 20.

How she got here

Swift’s dominance of the charts across the 2020s represents one of the most sustained periods of commercial and cultural supremacy any solo artist has achieved in the modern streaming era. The Fate of Ophelia has had unusual longevity: the song builds slowly on radio before peaking, which extends its Hot 100 dominance well beyond what a streaming-only hit would achieve.

The artist herself

Swift has not commented publicly on the chart milestones, consistent with her approach of letting the work speak for itself. She is currently in the middle of a global stadium tour and recording sessions for the next project. The question of whether she eventually matches The Beatles is less about ability than about time — and she appears to have no shortage of either.
